NYC AFTER DARK “THE OTHER NY”

This issue captures the spirit of New York City after dark. Photographers delved into subcultures, basements, fish markets, train stations, club scenes and much more to give readers a sense of what happens when lights are on underground, and off everywhere else. Featuring 11 stories, The Other New York reveals provocative and edgy characters alongside intimate portraits of people living life at work and play.

PHOTOGRAPHIC FIDELITY

To capture the photographic fidelity and to make dV a physical experience as well as a limited edition keepsake, we utilized a plethora of printing techniques to help take the viewer on the journey with us. The physical form is a soft cover 80 page book, saddle sewn with red thread. A variety of design elements are found inside, including folds, inserts, tipped-in books and overprint techniques.

THE ARTISTS

We asked some of New York’s most accomplished visual storytellers to explore and document who, what, where, and how the people of New York live after dark.

In this limited edition DV project box set, we take you on 8 related journeys, a tour of NYC after dark.

THE EVENT

The DV3 event was held at Drive-In Studios in Manhattan

Anchored by a twenty-foot banner of one of the “Lucky Girls” hanging over the bar, the DV3 party was a blast. Eight ten-foot photo exhibits, artist’s films, and a chance to hang out with the artists themselves provided for a great evening. In addition, the street artist Royce painted one-hundred special DV3 wrappers, as gifts for attendees. DJ Stephen Pandolfi kept everyone moving all night long.
